It has been a tumultuous and inspiring 15 months. It all began in the summer of 2017 when I was asked to consider running for Island County Commissioner. I gathered together people to seek advice and discernment and to talk about our vision for our community. We knew that it was time to come together around our shared values to seek common sense solutions for the issues in Island County. We knew it was time for change.
This was a team effort. We created a shared vision, built a plan, drew together a strong team and reached out to engage thousands of folks who gave time, energy and resources. Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has." Together we are the change we wish to see in Island County. With my incredible team of volunteers, we knocked on over 6000 doors in rain, smoke, sunshine and wind. Hundreds of people have been called to encourage them to vote. Dozens of house parties and events helped us connect to the people in Island County. And with our social media campaign, with your comments and shares, we have reached over 30,000 people in Island County. I listened. I heard folks talk about healthcare, mental health and substance abuse, protection of the environment, jobs and a diverse economy, better services and responsive government and a yearning for respect and a return to civility. Thank you to Civility First for giving voice to that desire.
None of this was possible without all of us working together. You have inspired me, moved me to tears of gratitude, given me strength and helped me voice my vision for our communities. Thank you for your support.
